As Creative Director for SOFU Lifestyle, I have always believed that my role extends far beyond what happens on a page. Creative direction is about recognizing stories that deserve to be told, understanding why they matter, and helping create the vision and opportunity for those stories to reach an audience in a meaningful way.

That is why helping bring our cover feature on Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens to life was especially meaningful to me. As a fellow Atlanta native, I understand the heartbeat of this city, and Mayor Dickens embodies the heart, vision, and resilience that define Atlanta at its best.

In the feature, Mayor Dickens reflects on his commitment to Atlanta's future, from record-breaking fundraising at the UNCF Mayor's Masked Ball to unprecedented strides in affordable housing and public safety. Under his leadership, the city has built 10,000 units of affordable housing, earned its first-ever triple-A bond rating, and seen a 30% reduction in homicides. "Atlanta isn't just a city, it's a movement," he says, and that spirit is exactly what we set out to capture.

My role as Creative Director was to ensure that the visual storytelling matched the weight of his words. Every detail, from the photography direction to the layout, was crafted to honor the dignity and warmth of a leader who governs with both head and heart. The feature also celebrated the 41st Annual UNCF Atlanta Mayor's Masked Ball and music legend Charlie Wilson, a night that brought together corporate partners, educators, and community influencers in support of HBCU students.

Creative direction, at its best, is a cultural responsibility. It is the work of giving stories the platform they deserve.
