Going Beyond the Brief: Taking Lazy Foodies From Brand to Story
There is something I have learned throughout my years in branding, marketing and creative direction: the work does not stop when the deliverables are complete. A logo can establish recognition. A website can establish credibility. A marketing campaign can generate attention. But the real opportunity is in understanding what a brand needs next and having the vision to pursue it.
That was the thinking behind our work with Lazy Foodies and founder Deedy Wales.
As Creative Director and founder of Live In Color Agency, I believe in looking beyond what a client initially asks for. My job is not simply to design, market and execute. It is to understand the bigger picture and identify opportunities that can move a brand forward.
With Lazy Foodies, that meant taking the story beyond the brand itself and into the community.
Through local outreach and relationship building, we were able to create an editorial opportunity for Deedy and Lazy Foodies with SoFu Lifestyle Magazine. The result was a beautiful feature, "Deedy Wales and Lazy Foodies," appearing in the May 2025 issue and giving the brand another opportunity to introduce its story, its founder and its vision to a broader audience.
### Supercharging the Brand Beyond the Assignment
For me, this is what creative leadership looks like.
It is not waiting for someone to say, “Can you get us press?” It is recognizing that the brand has a story worth telling and finding the right door to open.
The Lazy Foodies feature is a reminder that branding is bigger than design. Marketing is bigger than posting. Execution is bigger than checking boxes.
When I work with a brand, I am always thinking about the next opportunity, the next relationship, the next audience and the next level of visibility.
Sometimes you have to go beyond the brief.
