There are certain meals you remember long after the table has been cleared, and for me, the Giant Pancake at SeaHawk Prime by David Burke is one of them.
Just north of West Palm Beach in Lake Park, Florida, SeaHawk Prime sits along the Intracoastal inside Nautilus 220, bringing together waterfront surroundings, polished dining and the playful culinary personality of Chef David Burke. I have always believed that food is part of the travel story, and sometimes you do not have to leave South Florida to feel like you have discovered somewhere new.
On this particular brunch outing, I went for the Giant Pancake, and let me tell you, this was not your ordinary pancake. It arrived with fresh whipped cream, banana, fresh berries and syrup, and it delivered exactly what I was hoping for when I sat down for brunch: indulgence, presentation and a little bit of fun.
At $20, the Giant Pancake is the kind of dish that makes you stop and appreciate the simple pleasure of a great brunch. The pancake itself is the star, but the combination of fruit, whipped cream and syrup brings everything together. There is something wonderfully nostalgic about a pancake breakfast, but David Burke's approach gives it a larger than life personality that fits perfectly within the SeaHawk Prime experience.
What I enjoyed most was that the experience felt like more than simply going out to eat. It was one of those South Florida moments where the setting, the food and the pace of the day all come together. SeaHawk Prime describes itself as a waterfront dining destination, and sitting there with brunch in front of me, I understood exactly what that means.
As someone who looks at travel through the lens of culture, food and destination, I am always reminded that some of the best stories can be found close to home. You do not always need a passport to discover something memorable. Sometimes you simply need a great table, an appetite and the willingness to try something that catches your eye.
For me, that was the Giant Pancake.
